Class Policies

In Studio Classes (Mat + Equipment): You may arrive up to 10minutes before the class and not before. Please do your best to arrive on time and allow at least 5 minutes before class to get settled.

Livestream Classes: Students will receive a link to the class 1hour and 15min before the class begins.

Outdoor Classes (spring and summer): For our Thursday 8am class in Travers park, we ask that you sign up for a spot in class ahead of time. This helps us greatly to sustain the class and ensure that it continues! If it rains, we will cancel class.

Cancellation Policies:

The studio honors a 6 hour cancellation policy for In Studio reservations so that waitlisted students can claim a spot in class in the event of a cancellation. Livestream and Outdoor classes have a one hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel your reservation for a mat class, you may do so online or email the studio at info@secondstorymovement.com or your account will be debited for the class.

Students with a single monthly unlimited or an auto-renew monthly unlimited are permitted 4 penalty free late cancellations per month, and 0 no shows per month. This means that an unlimited student can late cancel their reservation without any fees up to 4 times in a month, and on the 5th time they are charged $5. No shows are charged $5 the very first time a student abandons their spot, so please always cancel a class reservation and avoid no shows.

If you are sick and it is less than 6 hours before class, please immediately cancel your reservation and notify info@secondstorymovement.com to avoid a late cancellation penalty.

Waitlist Policies:

Students on the waitlist can be automatically added to a class up to 6 hours before a class starts, and students will receive an email or text notification no later than 6 hours before class starts if they are added to the class.

This means that students on the waitlist for a morning class may be added to the class overnight. If this is not enough lead time for you, or you do not plan to check your notifications in the morning, then please remove yourself from the waitlist before bed so that another student can take the spot in class.

Please note that signing up for the waitlist is a commitment to a spot in class if a spot becomes available.

Please cancel your spot on the waitlist if your plans change and you can no longer take the class.

Late Entry Policy for In Studio Classes:

We understand that life happens, but please make your very best effort to arrive 5 minutes before class begins.  Our space is intimate, and late entry is disruptive for students who are already settled.  Most teachers allow a 5 minute grace period, as long as they are still talking and have not begun movement.  Once centering or warm-ups begin, we can not promise the teacher will be able to let you into class.

Common Questions

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO CLASS?
All you need are comfortable clothes to move in. Many of the classes use props but it is not required. The teacher will always suggest what props you can grab at the beginning of class. You can bring your own mat with you, or borrow one of our studio mats!

SHOULD I TAKE A PILATES OR YOGA PRIVATE?
Private sessions are a great way to familiarize yourself with the principles and terminology of pilates and yoga. They’re also an opportunity to address any specific health or movement needs in a one on one environment. Many students take a few private classes and move on to group classes, while others prefer an ongoing private practice. Let us know if you have questions about private yoga or pilates sessions at info@secondstorymovement.com or see our Private Sessions page here.

I AM NEW TO PILATES AND YOGA. WHICH CLASSES SHOULD I TAKE?

For those with little to no experience, we suggest starting with Yoga Foundations or Pilates: The Classics. Yoga Foundations provides an introduction to commonly taught yoga postures, breathing techniques, and basic yoga philosophy. Pilates: The Classics focuses on the classical Pilates exercises that students will experience in many of our other Pilates classes. Students will get a foundational understanding of the Core exercises, breathing techniques, and basic form to get the most out of each movement.

All these classes are great for beginners and for long time practitioners who seek more clarity and awareness in their movement patterns. The rest our classes on the schedule are Open Level and if those work better for your schedule you are welcome to join. All our classes are meant to be accessible for newcomers and experienced practitioners alike. Just be sure to mention to your instructor that you are new so they can offer appropriate instructions to the new students in the class.

DO YOU HAVE ANY INTRODUCTORY OFFERS FOR NEW STUDENTS?
Yes! We have a New Student Offer, which is two weeks of unlimited yoga and pilates mat classes for $49*. This is a great opportunity for new students to check out a variety of classes. The 14 day period begins when you purchase the package.

Please note that this offer applies to your first visit at 2nd Story and cannot be purchased after you’ve taken class.
